Fourteen Preludes arranged for Viol Quartet

Scriabin (1872-1915) composed 95 preludes for piano in his relatively short life. Most of them are completely pianistic, but the ones selected in this edition are in four voices which transfer to the viol quartet (treble, 2 tenors and bass) surprisingly well. The score, first page shown here, preserves the sometimes very long slurs of the original piano version, as a guide to phrasing: all but the shortest slurs are omitted from the parts, but players should consult the score for phrasing advice. Tempi are editorial and not always consistent with pianistic tempi. The attractive cover image is licensed from Shutterstock.com
