This fantasy was commissioned for the 1989 Charney Manor Viola da gamba Course; it follows the course of the typical English winter (before global warming!), beginning with November, "the year's sad daughter" and continuing through Christmas and January's frost to April -- "for lo, the winter is past...the time of the singing of birds is come". One of the most interesting of the Charney Manor series, with great rhythmic independence in the parts.
